Dispatches has received a communique from an anonymous collective called OBU, announcing a sixteen-part Manifesto. The group has stated that it intends to send Dispatches one section every week over the next four months. The Manifesto apparently meditates on the current conjuncture and calls for the formation of a diffused cultural resistance of a brand new kind. The Manifesto as a whole is entitled OBU Manifestos 1-14 (Plus Two OBU Interludes). Past sections of the manifesto can be found under our Dispatches section tab, where they will be archived as they arrive.

OBU Manifesto #3

OBU is what it will be.

OBU is everywhere but OBU is not the only game in town. OBU supports and works with all groups that fight oligarchy and that defend those who are attacked.

All groups that fight oligarchy and defend those who are attacked and work for the power of working people are OBU.

OBU is the negation and the affirmation.

OBU is the articulation and the action.

OBU is webs of solidarity. OBU is the love that flourishes in moments of darkness.

OBU understands despair and does not succumb.

 OBU is One Big Union

OBU believes that every meeting must end with everyone knowing what they are to do before the next meeting.

OBU also embraces those who don’t know what to do before the next meeting.

OBU cannot believe that in its lifetime it ever would have witnessed such a thing as the 2016 election.

OBU refuses to accept the subversion of democracy.

OBU could not believe that ever in its lifetime it would witness such a thing as the 2000 election.

But it did. And it did.

Many things have happened in the lifetimes of OBU that can’t be believed.

 But here we are.

William Blake wrote that “one law for the lion and the lamb is oppression,” but OBU does not see how this is relevant. We are all people–we are not divided into subspecies of predators and prey.

OBU knows that capital divides people into predators and prey.

OBU is still capable of surprise. What will be the next surprise?

 OBU is Oligarchy Busters United

OBU is every pragmatic alliance that can be made to dismantle or delay the onslaught of awful legislation the new government will unleash on us to destroy the rights of workers, women, and minorities.

OBU is the bonds of support that will keep people from hunger and homelessness.

OBU is money, generosity, the creation of institutions, the building of power.

OBU is friendship and respect across all faction.
