In face of the ongoing refusal of China-touring “avant-garde” poetry faculty at Penn to stand up against the Chinese regime’s suppressions of basic cultural and political freedoms, Dispatches from the Poetry Wars respectfully suggests the following Modest Proposal to the University of Pennsylvania:

That the University, out of simple decency, and in modest compensation for the complicit silence of some of its English faculty, offer the newly announced job opening https://facultysearches.provost.upenn.edu/postings/1244 to the long-suffering poet and photographer Liu Xia, the wife of the Nobel Peace Prize winner, critic, and poet, Liu Xiaobo, who recently perished after years of utterly unjust imprisonment in China.

Do the right thing, University of Pennsylvania.
